Frane’s 2020 Reserve Meritage is boasting four Bordeaux varietals: 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12.5% Merlot, 12.5% Cabernet Franc, and 9% Malbec. Each vineyard block contributes its unique character: the Sonoma Valley Cab from Atwood Ranch establishes a firm, yet complex structure, the Merlot from Elso’s Russian River vineyard adds plummy plushness, the Cab Franc from La Prenda’s Calistoga road vineyard brings good fruit and minerality, while Javier’s Chalk Hill Malbec enlivens and extends the finish with a core of good earth and leather. This classic Meritage pairs well with rich meat dishes, like: Osso Buco, Filet Mignon, and Beef Bourguignon.
