Frane’s 2021 Reserve Meritage is boasting four Bordeaux varietals: 17% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Cabernet Franc, and 17% Petit Verdot. Each vineyard block contributes its unique character: the Merlot from Foppiano’s Dry Creek Valley vineyard adds plummy plushness, the Sonoma Valley Cab from Atwood Ranch establishes a firm, yet complex structure, and the Cab Franc from La Prenda’s Calistoga road vineyard brings good spiced fruit and minerality, while Petroni’s Cavedale Road Petit Verdot enlivens and extends the finish with a core of black olive, good earth and leather. This classic Meritage pairs well with rich meat dishes, like: Osso Buco, Filet Mignon, and Beef Bourguignon.
