Description
This is a 100% varietal of Aglianico, grown in the hand-tended Heringer’s Vineyard. Pronounced “alli-YAWN-nico,” this is a full-bodied red wine which is originally native to Southern Italy but has transferred well to California’s warm, dry climate. Young Aglianico wines are known for strikingly savory flavors of white pepper and black fruits, and this instantiation does not disappoint. It starts with a burst of acidic fruit candy, resolving into fresh blackberry on its journey across the palate, finishing with soft dried figs. Age it to develop even more aromas of dried figs and tanned leather, ensuring an earthy, rustic wine experience. Aglianico pairs well with rich, flavorful foods; think lamb shanks, barbecued beef and brisket, smoked pork, spaghetti Bolognese and Asiago cheese.
