This innovative blend is 50% Merlot from Alan Foppiano Vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley, and 50% Tannat from Heringer Vineyard in Clarksburg. Why would we do this, you might ask? Why-nat we might counter. Although unusual here, it is a common practice in Cotes de Gascogne, France. Frane always wanted to try it, and now he is glad he did. The name of the wine, Tannat, comes from the word “tannin”, so Tannat is bold and rustic with tannins. The Merlot offers a juicy roundedness and a silky-smooth mouthfeel, countering the edgy Tannat. Frane has known Alan Foppiano of Alan Foppiano Vineyard for years, and Alan has encouraged this playfulness. The product of this boyish charm is now in your glass. Try it with braised pork knuckle, fillet mignon burger, spicy lamb skewers, spicy vegetable skewers, Chinese chili tofu and spicy chili beans, with or without meat.
