Description
Nero d’Avola is a bold, fruit forward red wine with its roots tracing back to the ancient Greeks planting wine grapes in Sicily. This is a rare grape that grows well in hot climates, finding the perfect home in the Saureel Vineyard in El Dorado County, California. Nero d’Avola is the Italian answer to lovers of the full-bodied wines of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Upon pouring, a jammy nose bursts forth, followed by hints of cedar and leather. As the wine caresses the palate, dark berry notes mingle with a pleasant acidity. It finishes dry with a perceptible black cherry tartness. This wine pairs well with heavy meat dishes like oxtail and beef stew. Even artisan hamburgers will benefit from this wine. It is recommended to sip while there is burger in the mouth. The heavy flavors will enhance the wine and vise-versa. This wine also pairs with anise, bay leaf, sage and Asian plum-based sauces. Don’t shy away from the use of shitake mushrooms and anything-lentil.
